If you are interested in turning your hobby into a business or you just want to obtain foothold in obtaining a nationally recognised qualification, you have come to the right place.  We offer certificated courses that will help you achieve your goal.  The courses offered will be part of your Continuous Professional Development (CPD) and will also form a sound foundation as part of your cake decorating journey. Beginner's Accredited Course in Cake Decoration 

​

Aims

Over the 24 weeks, the Beginner’s Accredited course in Cake Decoration aims to give learners an understanding of cake decorating techniques develop specialist skills required, provide practical experience in handling tools and equipment, give an understanding of the commodities used, identify the Health and Safety requirements associated with the preparation and use of cake decorating, prepare learners for employment or business in this area of work.

You will also produce a portfolio of works.

 

The 4 Units are as follows:

 

  • Coating and decorating cakes with sugar paste

  • Coating and decorating small cakes and biscuits with a variety of coatings

  • Modelling with marzipan and sugar paste

  •  Coating and decorating cakes with royal icing

Grading Categories are: Pass, Merit or Distinction

intermediate Accredited Course in Cake Decoration

​

The primary purpose of the 24 week accredited Intermediate Course in Cake Decoration is to provide the opportunity for you as an individual to develop and practice the intermediate level of skills to support you in attaining employment in the sugarcraft and confectionery industry. 

This course also provides some knowledge and practical experience to assist you in gaining qualifications in other catering areas and provides an opportunity to progress into further training.

Undertaking this training programme allows you to:

  1. Develop an intermediate level of knowledge and understanding of cake decorating, sugar craft techniques and design

  2. Develop specialist and niche cake decoration and sugarcraft skills

  3. Develop through practical experience handling of specialist tools and equipment and understand the commodities used

  4. Identify the Health and Safety requirements associated with the work

  5. Prepare for employment or business in this area of work

 

Who is this course for?

This programme has been designed for people who are hobbyists or intend to work in the catering industry, who are interested in developing skills in cake decorating and sugarcraft. 

​

There are no formal requirements for entry onto this training programme. However, to fully benefit from this course, you may find it useful to have some prior knowledge and understanding of coating and decorating cakes, depending upon your previous experience/learning, an example could include the ABC Level 1 Award in Cake Decoration or the Beginners Accredited course, City and Guilds or equivalent, but this is not essential.

We would recommend that you call us to receive appropriate advice and guidance on the suitability of the qualification before embarking on any of our courses.

What does the course cover?

​

You will cover aspects of:

  • Royal Icing Techniques 

  • Modelling techniques for cake decoration 

  • Sugarpaste techniques for cake decoration 

  • Produce novelty cakes, cake sculpting.​

  • Tiered Cakes (wedding or celebratory).

​​

You will develop:

  • Skills to design a novelty cake to a given brief

  • Crumb sealing, shaping & forming base cakes and assembly techniques for covering,

  • Coating and icing to achieve a neat finish

  • Finishing skills and techniques

​​

You will also produce a portfolio of works.

​

Grading Categories are: Pass, Merit or Distinction

However, please note that you will not be able to enrol on any other course, neither will you receive your course certificate until you have finished paying your instalment payments in full.

Length of Courses

All courses are run one day or one evening a week for a specified number of weeks.

Enrolments

All classes have a set amount of places that are issued on a first come, first serve basis.

 

Late Enrolments

Accepting late enrolments is at the discretion of UCR, should you enrol after the course has commenced, you will be required to pay the full listed course price, however you will have to call or email us first to check availability.
